Depending on your accuracy, your second shot may find the bunker that splits the fairway. The first step in a fairway bunker is to assess the lie. If the lie is poor or the ball is too close to the lip, you may have to use a wedge to get the ball out and back in play. If the lip isn’t a factor, then select one more club than you normally would for the distance and grip down an inch on the club. Position the ball in the middle of your stance to make sure you hit the ball before the sand. Make a three-quarters backswing with a slightly slower tempo on the forward swing, making solid contact your goal.
